Was It Worth It?
By Mary T. Hoffman
Was it worth the pain and suffering endured by innocent animals?
Was it worth the killing and violence, turning humans into criminals?
Was it worth desensitizing your children, losing their empathy,
creating sociopaths, destroying their inborn sense of harmony
with God’s creation on our planet earth?
Stop following a backward tradition
that cries out for abolition
as it joins cannibalism as passé.
There is no excuse today
for such ignorance to hold sway.
Holidays should be centered on life and love –
the things proclaimed by the Lord above.
Humiliation and death of His creations
will have consequences for those nations
that are far from their aspirations,
as hearts become hardened and cruel
when the arrogant and evil rule.
And as we look around, when it’s too late,
desperately wondering what caused our sorry fate,
we’ll have only ourselves to blame
for the horrors and the shame.
Stop the Cruelty
By Bernie Jones
I look around me to see what is 'normal'
And the tears will not cease not because I'm hormonal
Because the things that I witness all of the time
Are things derived of cruelty, though pushed from your minds
I look down and I see you are wearing leather daps
And it's ham or corned beef that you have in your baps
It is cow's milk you put in your coffee and tea
Is that contempt in your eyes as you're looking at me?
I try not to look, not to judge, though inside
The pain that I feel is so hard to hide
I know the cruelties behind those 'innocent' acts
You choose not to see, but I know the facts
Do I make you feel guilty for making my stand?
Why do you turn from me as I hold out my hand?
Is it because you believe all I do is criticize?
As you eat your beef burger and turn from my eyes.
Do you never ask me questions 'cause you don't want to hear
...the reasons for my actions, the cost is too dear
You may have to change, if you hear what I say
It may change your life in every way!
You perpetuate suffering though try not to see it
Sometimes you realise, try hard to ignore it
I understand fully, it's painful to see
The suffering and pain, the endless cruelty
It's easier to bury your head in the sand
Only I can't ignore the truth on command
It's time that more people make the stand
Please, open your eyes, take my hand
And take a good long look at the realities of this world
Stop the cruelty.
A Dog's Love
(My Love Should Be More Dog-Like)
By Butterflies Katz
Whenever I need to love, my dog is faithfully there.
Dogs exemplify a great willingness to give and to share.
They inspire us to go for walks, to play and even run,
A dog's love is comforting and makes life much more fun.
They are willing love objects at any hour of the day.
It seems that my dog understands every word I say.
Within a dog’s warm welcome, true love is understood.
Their eyes reveal honesty and a heart that's pure and good.
Great genius made the wagging tail, the 'happy' indicator,
When I see a dog's tail wag, my own happiness grows greater!
A dog's Love offers a calming, therapeutic feeling,
Petting a dog's coat has a wonderful way of healing.
A dog's love truly feels as though it comes from a higher place
than the oftentimes self-serving love shown by the human race.
This interspecies relationship has helped my soul to grow.
My Love should be more Dog-like. I am only human, though.
Miss you so much
