It has taken me some weeks to be able to write this little piece in memory of my beloved Meggie, who passed on 19th July 2008. She was very old, 11 yrs, so for a Mastina like her, had an excellent long and happy life.
She was my very first puppy, the ones before her came to me as young adult,, but I was blessed to get her, only one of two females in 11 puppies.
She lived her whole life inside my house, caring for all the new dogs who arrived after her and adored puppies, but never had any of her own. Meggie was a beautiful dog, inside and out, a true Mastina who only ever wanted one owner and I am so lucky that the owner was me.
She passed away at home of a sudden heart attack, after being ill for a few days with abcess. I was very fortunate to be there when it happened, to take her in my arms, tell her how much I loved her, and to wait for me until I could come again to be with her.
Anyone who ever had relationship with a Mastino like this knows how it is, how it only happens with some very rare and special dogs who get inside your heart and never leave. Meggie was my ' once in a lifetime' Mastina. There will never be another like her for me.
Is not goodbye, but see you later, my special girl.
